from the desk of Denver Snuffer: Roles and Limitations

I am glad I am not the only one that feels this way.

I got a lot from this post and the comments though the last two did leave me on edge. Probably from the attitude I was sensing from them which is one that always raises my red flag alarm.

It seems that any intimation that things are wrong in the church reflects as an attack on "The Brethren". If people were to stop seeing it as such, what would they see? Is it possible that the state of the church today is a fulfillment of prophecy in the Book of Mormon?

We must remember that those called to be the Lord's servants are men still and the calling does not make them perfect. Furthermore they have been raised in a world that embraces the same roman paganism that has been masquerading as Christianity since at least the time of Consantine, if not before. We must learn to think outside of that box if we are to truly understand the word of the God written in the holy scriptures and as always learn and confirm all truth through the Holy Spirit.

To me what the author of this post is advocating is our personal responsibility and conviction over that of being "commanded in all things". Obedience to local and general leaders is pushed and pushed in the name of being obedient to God. However, if we are being obedient to be obedient then we gain nothing. It truly does come back to what is in our hearts. If we are obedient to the commandments of God because of the Love within our hearts then we gain much, much more than we can fathom.

  1. I read the article. Thanks for the email. I do think that, as a people, we tend to put the brethren on a pedestal equal with God, which is not good. They are so "hallowed" that to disagree with them is sacrilege. Yet we have the right to know if what they are speaking is true, if it applies to our own personal issues, or if it is simply words of wisdom from men who have been indoctrinated by society.

The Spirit will tell us what we need to know. The Spirit of God is what we should be relying on above all else. Ultimately, this life and our decisions are between God and us. There is no middle man, since Christ is a God and he is the only middleman there truly is.
