Shockingly Unpatriotic

I have never been able to muster the indignation that so many people have about the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mainly because it is simply nothing more than a socialist indoctrination tool. There is absolutely nothing patriotic about it. It was written by a socialist in 1892 and did not even have those words in it. They did not appear until the 1950's and was officially put in in 1954. Here is the pledge in its different variations.

1892

“I pledge allegiance to my flag and the republic for which it stands: one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all.”

1892 - 1923
"I pledge allegiance to my flag and to the republic for which it stands: one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all."
1923-1924

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States and to the republic for which it stands: one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all."

1924-1954
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands; one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all."

1954 to Present
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Here are some links to sites that give the history of the use of the pledge; some for, some against, some neutral. Have a look and decide for yourself.

I say get rid of the pledge altogether. I know that those who know me will find my attitude shockingly unpatriotic. If the pledge of allegiance is going to decide my patriotism then I suppose I am. I am all for upholding the principles of freedom and liberty. My personal feeling, if you are going to pledge allegiance to something, pledge allegiance to God and all He truly stands for. One will never go wrong in that pledge.
